Exciting news – part 2
I’ve been enrolled in a Master of History degree for the past couple of years, studying part-time. It’s a course-work Masters, but there is a requirement for a major research project as well. My proposed project has just been accepted, starting in late February, for completion in October – although I’ve been considering this project…

Exciting news – part 1
Back in December, with hopes that I’d be visiting the UK and Denmark in March/April this year, I submitted a proposal for a ‘lightning’ (10 minute) presentation at the Making Historical Dress Network workshop on Learning from Making, to be held in Leicester, UK, on March 18th. And I’m over the moon that my proposal…

Updating
I’m in the process of restructuring this website so I apologise for any messiness! When I set it up some years ago, I used the portfolio function and posted my work as projects rather than posts, but that doesn’t work very well so I’m in the process of redoing the project pages as posts, which…

Panniers like these gave the slightly oval shape…

Regency apron
A project from 2017 I needed an apron for the Jane Austen Festival as I help out in the kitchen for suppers and wanted to protect my evening dresses. In researching aprons of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, there seems to be a number of styles. In the mid-late eighteenth century, before the fashionable…

1882 Drawers
These drawers are a part of the 1880s underwear set for my historical underwear collection project. They are made from the pattern for pantalons in La Mode Illustrée 1882, number 32. I’ve made them the size of the pattern pieces (plus seam allowance), without alteration. The finished waist is about 68cm (26.5inches). The drawers are…

1918 Dress
A project from 2018, re-made 2019 The centenary of the Armistice that ended hostilities in the First World War was on November 11th, 2018. Our local Folk Museum mounted a commemorative display, Sorrow, Celebration and Social Change. My contribution to the display included a small curated selection from the museum’s collection showing the rapid changes…
